FamilyID: In an effort to get rid of paper, we are using the tool the MSHS uses to sign off on policies that require your signature each year. Please click here for the directions to sign up for this service and sign off on these policies.

MySchoolAnywhere: Be sure to sign up for the PTO and the school directory using www.myschoolanywhere.com.

Afterschool Enrichment Activities: Many of these activities begin next week! It is imperative that you send a note each week to the teacher about staying after-school for any activity. This is for the safety of your child.

Yahoo Email accounts: It has come to our attention that people with yahoo email addresses are having difficulty sending emails to the district. You may be getting an error message that your email was not delivered sometimes well after the fact. We have researched this problem to see if the problem is on our end. However, the issue seems to be with yahoo. You might want to consider a different email address with a different extension. If you choose to change your email address, please be sure to let Jean Jerussi update your information.

Pequenakonck Elementary School

Dear PQ Families:

Important School Opening Information: We have attached an important Back to School letter with important information about school opening. Be sure to read this letter carefully!

Something New...we have started a PQ Twitter account @pq_elementary as a way to share what is happening throughout the school. We hope you will follow us and all of the wonderful things happening here at PQ.

Kindergarten and New Families Pizza Party: The PTO would like to welcome all Kindergarten and NEW families at our Pizza Party on Friday, September 8th at 5:00 pm! Please RSVP how many people will attend to ajstern32@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you there!

Dismissal Procedures for 17-18 School Year:
It is imperative for students to arrive at school with notes about their after school transportation needs. In order that children do not miss instructional time or worry about what they are doing after school, PLEASE send your child into school WITH a note stating what they are doing after school. Just a reminder that children are not allowed to switch buses for play dates or birthday parties.

Parent Pick-Up: will be in the gym at the end of each day beginning at 2:55 pm. Parents should enter the gym directly from the door in the parking lot. All children going to Parent Pick-Up MUST have a note indicating who will be picking up the child.

A PERMANENT PICKUP note will be honored when the parent/guardian has provided a written note to create this arrangement. Please indicate exactly what days the child will be picked up on a permanent basis and who the adult(s) is who will be picking up. Children will receive a color-coded tag for their backpacks as to which day(s) they are permanent pick-ups. Thus, a parent may arrange for their child to be picked-up for all 5 school days, or any combination of days, provided this has been indicated in advance. Please see the link below and send it to the office on the first day of school.

Transportation:
If you have a question about transportation please call Joe Senatore at 914-669-5854. Please remember that during the first week of school, buses are often late as new routes and routines are learned on each bus.

PQ Dad’s Day is Back: On September 18th and 19th, PQ will participate in "Dads Take your Child to School Day". This event celebrates fathers or other significant males as active partners in their children's education all throughout their school age years. Fathers will have breakfast with their children, walk their children to class, meet their child's teacher and see their child's classroom.
We continue to have amazing participation so we have once again planned a two day event. On Monday, September 18th, fathers/guardians whose last name begins with the letters A-M are invited from 7:50 a.m. to 9 a.m. On Tuesday, September 19th, fathers/guardians whose last name begins with the letters N-Z are invited from 7:50 a.m. to 9 a.m.Please see the attached flyer.

After School Enrichment (ASE): This program is organized by the PTO to provide fun and educational activities after school in a safe environment. Most activities take place at PQ and run for one hour after dismissal. A few activities (including horse riding and fencing) are offered off-site. This fall we are excited to offer over 40 classes, many of which are priced at under $100. The Fall session will run from 10/2 to 12/15 (with no classes on the week of Thanksgiving or on holidays). Look out for more information in upcoming Tuesday Newsdays, and come see us at our table at the Open House on Tuesday, September 5, from 3pm to 5pm.

PTO Meeting:
Our first PTO meeting will also be Wednesday, Sept. 6th beginning at 9:00 am in the Multi-Purpose Room. This is a great way to get involved and meet new people! All are welcome to attend!

Mission Monday!
See the center of the North Salem Website home page for our weekly stories about our Mission to engage students to continually learn, question, define and solve problems through critical and creative thinking.

IMPORTANT Notes from the School Nurse for all NEW students, Kindergarten, Grade 2 and Grade 4 students: Just a reminder that all kindergarten and new students need to have updated immunization records submitted by the first day of school. Failure to submit the necessary records could result in the inability of your child to attend school.

Physicals are needed for all new students, and those in Kindergarten, second and fourth grades. Any physical dated from September 6, 2016 until present is acceptable for this school year. If your child has not had a physical after this date please make an appointment as soon as possible. The Health Certificate/ Health Appraisal form can be found on the school web site.

Although not required, a Dental Health Certificate is advised for all students that require a physical this year. All forms are available on the school web site by clicking on district then forms.

Summer Reading: The theme of this year’s PQ Summer Reading program is the “Happy Camper: Take a Reading Adventure” sponsored by Scholastic. The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is a free online reading program that invites children to log their reading minutes all summer long. The PQ challenge for students entering kindergarten, first, and second grade is to read 1000 minutes this summer. Students entering third, fourth, and fifth grade are challenged to read 1400 minutes. You can access the summer reading program information at www.tiny.url/pqsummer. (You may need to type the url into your browser.)

Girl Scout Silver Award and Summer Reading: Please see the attached flyer. Another way to encourage summer reading. This is being run by two former PQ students who love reading!!

Reminder for K-2 Students:
Please remember to place a name tag on kindergarten, first and second grade students during the first two weeks of school. It is most helpful when approaching a lost child to call them by their name and know their teacher and bus number. Thank you for the help.

Thanks for your attention to these matters.
Kindly,
Mrs. Mary Johnson and Dr. Stephanie Bell

This Tuesday Newsday is significant in that it is the last one that will be created from a building sans students. Schedules have been printed, orientations have been attended, and (most) supplies have been bought. The building will be brimming with life tomorrow and the staff is excited for another fantastic year in North Salem.

Take out the clothes tonight, pack the lunches, and be prepared for another year of inquiry, innovation, and collaboration. We look forward to the 2017 - 2018 school year!

9/11 Ceremony

Hosted by Croton Falls Fire District

On September 11th in 2001, our world changed.  What started out as a beautiful autumn day, turned out to be one of the darkest days in American history.  Many wonderful men and women gave their lives that day for us and for our country.  Many still live with the memories of that day.  Let us take some time to gather together to remember.

A ceremony in remembrance, hosted by The Croton Falls Fire District, will take place at The North Salem Fire Station, 301 Titicus Road, North Salem, New York, on Monday, September 11th, 2017 at 6:30 PM.  We hope you can join us on this day of remembrance.  For additional information, please contact Patricia Galluccio at 914-669-5544 or email her at patgalluccio@crotonfallsfire.com
