Kindergarten Registration: In order to prepare for the upcoming budget season, we will once again be holding Kindergarten Registration early this year. Kindergarten Registration will run from December 4th through December 7th from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm at PQ. All the necessary forms are available on the PQ Website for registration. Please complete the attached form if you know a 4/5 year old or have one in your household and return it to Jean Jerussi. If you have any questions, please contact Jean Jerussi at 914-669-5317 X3056 or email at jjerussi@northsalemschools.org.

MySchoolBucks Program Fee Increase Effective December 11, 2017: We received notice from MySchoolBucks that the program convenience fee parents currently pay is increasing from $1.95 to $2.49 per payment. This fee increase is a result of an increase in credit card fees and will be effective December 11, 2017. MySchoolBucks will notify all account holders of this change via e-mail on Monday, November 27, 2017. If you have any questions, please contact MySchoolBucks directly aqt (855) 832-5226 or via e-mail at support@myschoolbucks.com. They will be increasing their customer support team to be available to answer any questions you may have.

Grade 2 Author Visit: Natalie Kinsey-Warnock will be here right after the Thanksgiving break to work with our second graders. Please see the attached book order form if you are interested in purchasing any of her books.

Appropriate Clothing for Recess: As winter approaches, please help make sure children are dressed properly for recess. We will try and get outside as often as possible. Pants and coats are becoming more and more needed each day. Thank you for your cooperation!

Indoor Recess Ideas: As we approach winter, we anticipate that there will be several days that outdoor recess will be a challenge. On those days, we want to ensure an engaging, social opportunity for our students during this time spent indoors. We are seeking to have rooms designated for different activities including crafts, games, creative adventures and challenge projects. We are seeking donations of art supplies and gently used games such as (but not limited to):

• No Stress Chess
• Uno
• Contraptions
• Jenga
• Quirkle
• Mancala
• Apples to Apples
• Legos

We would also love to offer some more options. If any parent volunteers have expertise in yoga/dance/knitting/crafts/video creation/journalism/etc...and would like to help out, please contact Dr. Bell.

Many thanks for your support!

Weather Delays and Closings: When there is a delayed opening or a decision about an early closing made BEFORE school starts, parents can receive notification by using the Superintendent’s News Service. You MUST sign up for this service at the following link, http://www.northsalemschools.org/district/superintendent_news_service. In addition, this information is on the district webpage (www.northsalemschools.org), WHUD 110.7 FM, WFAS 103.9 FM, WLAD 98.3 FM, Channel 12 News, and www.ctweather.com.

It is that time of year!! As we prepare for the winter season, it is important to have a Family Emergency plan - what happens in the event you are not home, etc. Having a family plan is a good way to help children feel safe and confident. Having a list of important phone numbers next to the phone, a way for children to let themselves in the house if you are running late, or a neighbor to go to if you are not home are just some ideas you might include in your family safety plan.

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Kindly,
Mrs. Johnson and Dr. Bell

Please note that counselors facilitate a variety of support groups throughout the year from how to deal with anxiety to bereavement (loss of a family member), social groups (to develop healthy friendships), and Changing Families for students whose parents are divorced. Though we reach out to students individually to invite them to participate in groups, we count on you to let us know if your child might benefit from this service. Please call your counselor for more information or if you would like your student to join a group.

Mercy College will be returning to NSHS on Tues., Nov. 7th, for students considering this school. They will  help students complete their applications and the fee to apply will be waived. Please also remember to check Family Connections under the college tab to see upcoming college rep visits.

Finally, please remember to check our counseling department web page for most recent events and information.
