Pequenakonck Elementary School

Dear PQ Families:

The Gifted/Talented Program Informational Meeting is rescheduled for October 22nd at 7:00 pm. Dr. Sands will explain the various components of our program at PQ.

The Instrumental Music Meeting is also rescheduled for October 22nd at 6:15 pm. All parents of 4th graders and new students to the program are encouraged to attend.

Be Kind Update: Be sure to see the attached letter about our Be Kind initiative. We are working hard to create a community where intentional kindness is valued and recognized. Be sure to read how you can help spread kindness at home!

Morning Arrival Time: Unless a student is coming for extra help, morning drop off time is 8:05. There are many students being dropped off prior to this time. Use of Buses for Playdates: We have been receiving a number of notes for students to ride a bus other than own for playdates. For safety reasons, switching buses is NOT permitted. Children must be picked up from school or go home on their own bus prior to a playdate.

Weather Delays and Closings: When there is a delayed opening or a decision about an early closing made BEFORE school starts, parents can receive notification by using the Superintendent’s News Service. Boy Scouts Troop 4 - Purdys are hosting an orienteering competition open to all students.

It will be held November 1 from 1 to 3 at the middle school high school. They are mapping out a course and will teach everyone how to use a map and compass when they get there

North Salem Middle/High School

SAFETY IS A PRIORITY -- Throughout the school year adults and students practice drills and procedures to be used in the case of emergency.  Sometime this week the Middle/High School will participate in the first of 4 lock-down drills.  The drill will be posted on the district website when it is in progress.  Thank for working with us to keep our school-community safe.

On Saturday, October 18th, we will be administering the PSAT/NMSQT to interested 10th and 11th grade students.  It is strongly recommended that all 11th grade students take the PSAT.  The counselors have gone into the English classes to explain about the exam and handed out the needed registration letter.  The letter can also be found on the Guidance Webpage.  If you have any questions, please contact your student's counselor.

Attention members of the Golden Stage Society:  Our first meeting of the year will take place on October 14th, from 3:00-4:30!  Come to the chorus room to work with Broadway dancer/singer/actress Michelle Bruckner as she teaches choreography for the auditions for the 2014 Golden Stage Society production of Damn Yankees!  Anyone planning on being in this year's musical are welcome and should make every effort to attend.  See you there!

REMINDER: Friday, October 10th is an Early Dismissal Day. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 am. No lunch is served.

Thank you (in advance) to the Croton Falls Fire Department for providing important information to our students about fire safety and prevention!

Reminder -- Early Dismissal at 10:30 on October, 10, 2014.  We will be running periods 1-4 on that day.

Mr. Davis will be hosting Freshmen Planning Night for all 9th grade parents on Thursday, October 9th at 7:00 PM in the Middle School Cafeteria.  Topics covered will be graduation requirements, BOCES programs, high school transcripts, and the 4-year planning.  Hope to see you there

6th Grade Parents Technology Information Evening -- On Wednesday, October 8th from 7:00pm - 8:00pm, parents/guardians of 6th grade students are invited to a hands-on session to learn about the technology and information resources their children will be using this year.  Topics will include using Google Docs, Chromebooks, library databases and our online book and ebook catalog (OPAC).  Please pre-register by October 1 by completing the form at this link: Register Here for 6th Grade Parents Technology Information Evening.  Please email Cynthia Sandler at csandler@northsalemschools.org with any questions.
 

Math Honor Society -- Applications are being accepted for the North Salem Math Honor Society. Students who have an overall average of an 88% or higher and an 88% average in math classes, Geometry and higher, are invited to apply. Applications are available in the main office and W-10. The process is explained in the application but students must submit an application with a current copy of their transcript as well as two teacher recommendations. Please see Mrs. Bratt for details. Applications are due to Mrs. Bratt by Friday October 3 at 2:10pm
