Pequenakonck Elementary School

Dear PQ Families:

Early Dismissal THIS FRIDAY - School will dismiss early on Friday for Professional Development. School will dismiss at 11:30 am.

State Math Testing: State Math testing for grades 3-5 will take place next week on April 30 - May 2nd. Please make sure students arrive on time during the testing window! Thanks for your cooperation.

Robert McCloskey Mural Dedication Ceremony: Robert McCloskey, famous author and illustrator of Caldecott Award books includingMake Way for Ducklings, lived in North Salem over 50 years ago. He created the mural for his dentist in Croton Falls. The mural has hung at PQ since the school was built in 1972. The PTO has funded a special frame to preserve for the art for the future. The mural will hang in the hallway opposite the multi-purpose room with a plaque telling more about Robert McCloskey and his books.

Student Placement Process: It is that time of year when we begin to consider student placement for the next year. Please see the attached letter regarding the placement process and how parents can support this process.

PTO Casino Night - THIS FRIDAY: Join us this Friday, April 25th from 7:00-midnight for the PTO Annual Spring Fundraiser. There are some wonderful auction items, a DJ and dancing, casino games and so much more! Help support the PTO so they can continue to provide the wonderful programs for your children :)

Intramural Field Hockey Opportunity for 4th and 5th Grade Girls:
The North Salem Athletic Department is offering field hockey intramurals for all girls in the 4th and 5th grades. Our modified field hockey coach, Emily Watson, will provide instruction of skill development through drills and game experiences. Students need to wear athletic gear and sneakers. You can sign up by emailing Mr. Sassone, the Director of Athletics, athsassone@northsalemschools.org.

Beginning May 13th and ending May 29th
On Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s from 2:55 - 3:40 pm
Students will be picked up by Ms. Watson in the Multi-Purpose room at 2:55pm. Parents may pick up their children at 3:45pm in the Multi-Purpose room or they may take the late bus home. If you have any further questions, please call Mr. Sassone at 914-669-5414, ext. 2039.

Don't be late, don't be late for a very important date! The High School Drama Club will be performing the childhood favorite, Alice in Wonderland on Friday, May 2nd and Saturday, May 3rd at 8:00 pm. There will be a suggested donation of ten dollars. We hope to see you there!

North Salem Middle/High School

•    On Tuesday, April 29th, our juniors and sophomores have been invited to attend The College & Career Fair at the BOCES Campus in Yorktown.  Your student was given a permission form in school.  If your student would like to participate, please complete the form and have your student return it to the Guidance Office no later than Wednesday, April 23rd.  The evening of April 29th at Fox Lane High School, there will be "College Night" for students and their parents.  College representatives will be available and a wide variety of college related workshops will be offered.  More information and the permission form can be found on the guidance webpage. 

•    Somers Holocaust Memorial Commission Presents --- North Salem students are active participants in the event in this event once again. Three of our students will also be recognized this evening by the SHMC for their winning artistic
projects that they are currently working on in both AP Euro and Global
II.  Lastly, numerous NSHS student projects will be on display at
Somers HS for this event as well.

•    Don't be late, don't be late for a very important date!  The High School Drama Club will be performing the childhood favorite, Alice in Wonderland on Friday, May 2nd and Saturday, May 3rd at 8:00 pm.  There will be a suggested donation of ten dollars.  We hope to see you there!

•    Attention Junior Boys --The American Legion Boys State Camp is a civic leadership program open to boys who have completed their Junior year of High School.  It will be held June 27 to July 3 at Morrisville State College.  An interview with the Post Commander of the North Salem American Legion will determine the one North Salem student who will attend. Those interested must speak to Mr. Valenti by 4/23. •    North Salem Middle School has chosen thirty art students to be represented in the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library Art Exhibit.   Students and their work have been selected for the creative solutions, excellence of craftsmanship, and effort within the course.  Please join us in celebrating their success.  The opening reception is Thursday, April 10th from 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Dear PQ Families:

Many, many thanks to Veronica Smith, Ali Jackson-Jolley, Lisa Dundon, the PARP Committee and the PTO. The support and dedication to providing learning experiences for our students through authors and illustrators is a very unique and amazing opportunity! What a huge success.....for our entire community!

ELA State Testing starts TODAY: ELA testing in Grades 3-5 runs from April 1-3 for grades 3-5. Please make sure children are here at school on time for testing. It is important for all students to take it with their classmates as opposed to being pulled out of instruction for make-ups. Getting a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast are also helpful! Please make sure students have their glasses, etc. each morning of testing! Thanks for your cooperation!

SEPTO Meeting: The SEPTO meeting for Thursday, April 3rd has been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 14th. Details to follow.

PTO Meeting: Tuesday, April 8th at 9:00 am. Come learn helpful organization tips from Elena Monaco!

Grade 2 Concert - Our grade 2 concert will be held on Thursday, April 10th at 7:00 pm! All are welcome to attend.
