Thursday is the Great American Smoke-Out -- Smokeless tobacco products come in different forms, but they can still cause cancer and other health problems. Here you can learn more about smokeless tobacco and get tips to help you quit. Click here to get started.

The US Surgeon General has said, “Smoking cessation [stopping smoking] represents the single most important step that smokers can take to enhance the length and quality of their lives.” It’s hard to quit smoking, but you can do it. To have the best chance of quitting and staying a non-smoker, you need to know what you’re up against, what your options are, and where to go for help. You’ll find this information here.

Weather Delays and Closings: When there is a delayed opening or a decision about an early closing made BEFORE school starts, parents can receive notification by using the Superintendent’s News Service. You MUST sign up for this service at the following link, http://www.northsalemschools.org/district/superintendent_news_service. In addition, this information is on the district webpage (www.northsalemschools.org), WHUD 110.7 FM, WFAS 103.9 FM, WLAD 98.3 FM, Channel 12 News, and www.ctweather.com.

It is that time of year!! As we prepare for the winter season, it is important to have a Family Emergency plan - what happens in the event you are not home, etc. Having a family plan is a good way to help children feel safe and confident. Having a list of important phone numbers next to the phone, a way for children to let themselves in the house if you are running late, or a neighbor to go to if you are not home are just some ideas you might include in your family safety plan.
