North Salem High School’s Drama Department will kick off the holiday season with an adaptation of the iconic John Hughes 1980s drama “The Breakfast Club.” The play follows five students who report for all-day detention on a Saturday at Shermer High School in Shermer, Illinois. While not complete strangers, each of them represents a different clique – “a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess and a criminal.”

The students pass the hours by talking, arguing and causing a bit of mischief. Despite their differences in social status, the group begins to break down the stereotypical barriers and form friendships as the day progresses, realizing that even with their differences they face similar pressures and complications in their lives.

The talented ensemble cast brings the 1980s back with fresh vitality and enthusiasm under the direction of Jennifer Molloy. For online tickets and more information, please visit: http://our.show/nsbc.

“The Breakfast Club” will be presented in the MS/HS auditorium on Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
