MISSION MONDAY: Inventing Distillation Apparatuses

Welcome to Mission Monday, a series of posts highlighting the ways North Salem students embrace the district mission of engaging in continual improvement, including questioning, defining and solving problems through critical and creative thinking. High school chemistry students recently learned about the phases of matter and thermodynamics. As part of the unit, students were challenged to use their knowledge of the principles of distillation, along with their creative and critical thinking skills, to make an apparatus that would perform the distillation process efficiently.

Working with a partner, which encouraged collaboration, students communicated to bring their ideas to life. When completed, students explained their proposed structures and functions of their inventions to their peers.
