Eleventh- and 12th grade chemistry students recently took on roles as members of the “North Salem Sports Medicine Supply Company” and were challenged to determine which chemicals would be effective for use as cold packs.

Using skills including critical and creative thinking, collaboration and communication, students experimented with various chemicals in hopes of finding ones that could be used to treat injuries at outdoor sporting events.

The assignment culminated in a research and development memo reporting the findings, written by the students, to send to the company’s chief executive officer.
