Keeping safe and protecting yourself is a problem North Salem students must solve.

The most important skill is to be aware of your situation and environment and keep yourself out of trouble. Trust your own feelings. If you feel uncomfortable or even a little afraid, take action right away. Be careful not to be an easy target because you are distracted talking on your cellphone. Do not look like a weak victim. Look and sound like a strong, no-nonsense person. Walk tall and with strong, fast steps. Look at the stranger and yell, "Go away! Leave me alone!" in a loud voice and leave as quickly as you can. Get into a store or some place with other people right away.
