Welcome to Mission Monday, a series of posts highlighting the ways North Salem students embrace the district mission of engaging in continual improvement, including questioning, defining and solving problems through critical and creative thinking. Creative, divergent thinking occurs when North Salem students find patterns in events, actions and things. Finding a pattern becomes a new way of thinking about what was observed. Likewise, finding connections may result in an “ah-ha” understanding of cause-effect or other relationships among events, actions or things. Metaphors are created to highlight a special characteristic of an event, action or thing and that kind of thinking develops deeper understanding.
