Welcome to Mission Monday, a series of posts highlighting the ways North Salem students embrace the district mission of engaging in continual improvement, including questioning, defining and solving problems through critical and creative thinking. Pequenakonck Elementary School fifth-grade students were excited to get their hands dirty in the school’s PTO-funded garden in the springtime.

Working together to complete the many tasks involved with gardening, the students celebrated Earth Day, planting crops that they later enjoyed as part of the schoolwide Salad Day. They were challenged to incorporate creative and critical thinking as part of the effort to find the most logical places to plant each crop, and analyze and problem-solve as they encountered challenges along the way.

See the below video for more from Earth Day.
