North Salem High School’s band was invited to perform in Albany during the New York State School Music Association’s celebration of Music in Our Schools Month on March 2.

“We performed two large band pieces, ‘A Copland Tribute,’ featuring the music of the great American composer Aaron Copland, and ‘Arabian Dances’ by Brian Balmages, based on traditional Middle Eastern folk songs and percussion rhythms,” said band director Mr. Steve Austin.

The school will continue to celebrate Music in Our Schools Month with the annual PRISM concert on March 17.

“This will be our seventh annual PRISM concert,” said Mr. Austin. “Every student gets the opportunity to play in a small chamber ensemble, and there are also a few soloists.”

The evening will consist of small groups and large ensembles playing in quick succession in the auditorium.

“You will be twisting in your seats to follow the action so that you don’t miss a thing!” said Mr. Austin.

The PRISM concert will be held on Thursday, March 17 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
