Schools Undergoing Summer Improvements

When students head back to the classrooms in the fall, they will notice some changes and improvements at both Pequenakonck Elementary School and the North Salem Middle/High School campus.

At PQ, guests will now enter into a security area, which is currently being installed in place of a conference room near the entrance to the school. This vestibule will ensure visitors will be identified and their purpose shared before they are escorted into the main building.

Also at PQ, the assistant principal’s office is being added near the front entrance, replacing one of the old reading rooms. The second reading room is being replaced by a new conference room, while a former classroom in the building is undergoing renovations to be split into two replacement reading rooms.

The middle/high school is undergoing some electrical work that will result in a new building-wide PA and speaker system. The middle school quads are receiving new LED lighting, which makes the areas brighter and more energy-efficient. The district plans to expand the LED lighting to other parts of the school in the coming year.

Finally, one of the school’s former boiler rooms is being converted into a storage area for the buildings and grounds department, which will be able to house large equipment and machinery.
