Taking a Bite Out of Shark Day

Something was fishy at Pequenakonck Elementary School when kindergarten students participated in the annual Shark Day with Dr. Michael Hibbard, assistant superintendent for instruction and human resources.

Kindergartners worked in small groups as they learned about sharks’ camouflage, the structure and function of the shark’s fins and compared the parts of a shark’s head to their own. The group activity required the students to closely observe, describe and make inferences supported by data as they asked where, why and how questions about different parts of the shark.
